Final Communique: preserving traditional territories and knowledge for a greater resilience of Indigenous Peoples in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic

The International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples 2020 was celebrated under the theme "Covid 19 and Indigenous Peoples' Resilience". The Baka, Bagyeli and Bedzang indigenous peoples, from from the Dja and Lobo, Haut Nyong, Boumba and Ngoko, Océan, Mbam and Kim divisions, presented the results of a study which aimed to highlight how the preservation and promotion of indigenous peoples' traditional knowledge and practices can be useful in addressing the current COVID 19 pandemic. This final communiqué reports on Government awareness-raising efforts towards indigenous peoples, endogenous measures developed by them, and recommendations for the better prevention of Indigenous Peoples in the face of COVID 19 and other potential other pandemics.
